at takamiya lab. west, the research and development hub of takamiya co., ltd. — a comprehensive provider of temporary construction equipment including scaffolding — f/p design led the conceptualisation of the central innovation hub and supervised the architectural design of both exterior and interior. the project was realised in collaboration with okumura corporation, following the previously completed theatre hall.
located along osaka bay, the facility serves as a platform for research, development, and co-creation with partner companies. it addresses industry challenges such as labour shortages while enabling experimentation in digital transformation (dx) beyond organisational boundaries.
a defining feature is the large cantilevered rooftop canopy, designed to support suspended scaffolding and lifts, giving the building a distinct identity. exposed steel structures across the exterior and interior allow flexible attachment of testing equipment, while large longitudinal gates enable efficient transport.
building on the design language of the theatre hall reception, the architecture develops a clear and refined expression suited to an r&d facility. a strong horizontal composition, combined with white panels and transparent glass, conveys reliability and openness. within the co-creation spaces, elements such as wooden scaffolding planks are integrated to reconnect users with the realities of construction.
