fritz frenkler honours erik spiekermann in stadthagen
on 10 september 2026, erik spiekermann was honoured with an entry in the golden book of his hometown, stadthagen.
the internationally renowned typographer and designer was born in stadthagen in 1947. from there, his path took him via berlin and london into the international world of design. through his typefaces, information and wayfinding systems, as well as his role as founder of metadesign and fontshop, he has helped shape visual culture for decades.
to mark the occasion, prof. fritz frenkler delivered a personal tribute to erik spiekermann. it reflects on his journey as a designer, his connection to stadthagen and the role typography and design play in our society, today and in the future.
